Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu
Your arrival at the airport marks the first day of the journey. You will be greeted by one of Escape Himalaya's representatives who will proceed to explain the program further to you. Transferred to your hotel with no further planned activities for the day, you may relax for the remainder of the time. Overnight stay at the hotel in Kathmandu.
Day 02: Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing Tour and preparation for the Trek
Today, you will get the opportunity to look at various sites enlisted under the World Heritage Sites List by UNESCO around the city. The old temples, opulent monasteries, old Royal Palaces and the unique arts and architectures carved in the woods, metals and stones present a captivating premise for you to explore. You will visit the holiest Tibetan Buddhist temple and the largest Stupa on Earth- the Boudhanath Stupa which holds the ever-present Buddha eyes on all four sides. Next, you will visit the Pashupatinath Temple, a very sacred Hindu Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva set on the banks of the holy Bagmati River. Sometimes, you can also witness cremation rituals on the bank of the holy river. You will also visit the Kathmandu Durbar Square where you can have a look at various old palaces built during the reigns of kings in the medieval times. The Kathmandu Durbar Square was badly affected by the 2015 earthquake and many of the palaces and old temples around the Durbar Square were destroyed. The reimbursement process is going on but for the majority of the area, the rebuilding process and reconstruction is underway. Next is the holy Swayambhunath temple, sacred to the Buddhist people. It is a famous pilgrimage site. Overnight stay at the hotel, breakfast included.
Day 03: Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m), Duration: 6 hours
After breakfast, we will set off to Pokhara- the second largest city of Nepal. The scenery along the road is dramatic and you will see rivers, various valleys, cascading rice terrace farms and rocky gorges. Upon arrival and checking into your hotel, in the evening- you may also enjoy a leisurely boat-ride on the scenic Fewa Lake at Pokhara. You may also see the reflection of Mount Machhapuchhre and the Annapurna Range on the crystal clear waters of the Lake. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.
Day 04: Drive Naya Pul (New bridge), trek to Tikhe Dhunga (1495m), Duration: 4 hours
After breakfast at around 07:30 am, we will drive to Naya Pul (42km) by car/taxi via the large village of Lumle and walk for about 20 minutes to Birethanti, a large and prosperous town. The trail follows the main street of Birethanti, going through bamboo forests and past a large waterfall and swimming hole. Beyond lies a pasture used by pony caravans and the paths continues through until reaching Ramghai where you will have lunch. After lunch, the trail climbs gradually up the side of the valley, reaching Tikhe Dhunga. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 05: Trek to Ghorepani (2850m), Duration: 6 hours
From Tikhe Dhunga, the trail crosses a stream on a suspension bridge near the camp site. The trail ascends a steep stone staircase (which has about 3300 steps) to the large Magar village of Ulleri at 2080m. Above the village, the trail climbs gently through pastures and cultivated fields. There is a camp site for a rest and water stop one hour’s walk above Ulleri. The trail crosses two sparkling streams before making a short, final climb to Nangethanti where we stop for lunch. Thanti is a Nepali word meaning "rest house”. In the winter, the trail can be covered with snow. From Nangethanti, we will climb to Ghorepani at 2850m- from here, we can see the spectacular panorama of Dhaulagiri I (8167m), Tukuche Nilgiri (6940m), Annapurna I (8091m), Hiunchuli (6441m) and Tarke Kang (7193m). Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 06: Hiking -Poonhill (3180m), trek to Tadapani (2500m), Duration: 6 hours
This morning, we will get up early and hike to Poon Hill. From here, you will be able to see a superb view of the sunrise and a panoramic view of the Himalayas, including Mount Dhaulagiri, Annapurna South, Fishtail and others. After visiting Poonhill, we will come back to Ghorepani, have a hot breakfast, and continue walking to Tadapani. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 07: Trek to Chhomrong (2020m), Duration: 5 hours
The day starts with a steep downhill descend. Leaving Tadapani, we will descend steeply through forests and then the trail eases as we reach Gurung which is the village of the Gurung people. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 08: Trek to Dovan (2600m), Duration: 5 hours
Today, the trail drops down to the Chhomrong Khola; again we will continue climbing to Khuldighar at 2380m, where there is an ACAP Check post. After that, the trek is a continuous descent to Dovan. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 09: Trek to Deurali (3200m), Duration: 4 hours
The day begins with a climb through bamboo and rhododendron forests to Dovan, the Himalayan Hotel and on to Hinko at 3020m. The accommodation will be in Deurali, on the ridge above Hinko. It is the stretch of trail that is most subjective to avalanches. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 10: Trek to Annapurna Base Camp (4210m), Duration: 5 hours
Today, the trail climbs on past the Machhapuchhre Base Camp (3700m) (which isn’t really a base camp since climbing the mountain is not permitted) to the Annapurna Base Camp. Since, it is totally surrounded by mountain, this area is known as the Annapurna Sanctuary. You can either end the day at Machhapuchhre Base Camp or trek two hours on to Annapurna Base Camp. There, you will view the mountain scenery which is even more spectacular. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 11: Trek to Tharpu Chuli Peak Base Camp (4910m) Duration: 3-4 hours
We will head towards the Tent Peak high camp/Tharpu Chuli Base Camp. We may struggle against the glaciated mountain pass and finally reach our destination. For those who do not wish to climb, hiking from the camp can be quite pleasurable and adventurous. Sightseeing exotic ecosystems and breathtaking vistas of the Himalayan peaks of Nepal can be equally satisfying. Overnight at tent, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Pre-Climb Training: After lunch, our guides will provide training on peak climbing techniques and using climbing gears such as ice axe, climbing boot and crampons, harness and ascenders. The guide will also show you how to go up and down using ropes. Although it is not mandatory to have prior training experience for peak climbing, we believe that some training experience will boost up your confidence and climbing skills, thus increasing the chances of scaling the summit to fully enjoy the experience.
Day 12: Summit Tharpu Chuli Peak (5653m), and return to ABC (4210m), Duration: 8-9 hours
We will ascend to the peak early in the morning. After a strenuous ascend, we will scale the summit of the Tent Peak. We may savor mesmerizing views of the Annapurna range from there. Tucking success under our belt, we will return to the Annapurna Base Camp. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 13: Reserve day for contingency
There is no guarantee that we can get a favorable weather on our planned day for the summit (day 12), so this day is used as contingency in case if we are unable to summit the peak on day 12 due to bad weather condition or some other reasons. If the weather gets exceptionally unfavorable, we wisely have to postpone the program of summiting the peak. Sometimes- somebody in the group may also encounter some problems in acclimatizing well, affecting the ascent; the day can be used in that condition too. If the trip goes smoothly, we do not need this spare day. Overnight at tented camp or guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 14: Explore the Hidden Valley and trek back to Bamboo, Duration: 7 hours
We will explore the hidden valley today. The valley is quite beautiful and the sights of the distant peaks make for a lovely exploration. After that, we will then trek back to Bamboo. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 15: Trek to Jhinu Danda (hot spring), Duration: 6 hours
We will trek to Jhinu Danda (hot spring) on this day. You can enjoy the evening at the hot spring, soaking up all that natural mineral water. The hot spring also helps to relax aching muscles and relieves sore joints. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 16: Jhinu Danda to Pokhara, Duration: 5-6 hours
We will trek to Naya Pul; then will be transferred to Pokhara. Overnight at hotel, breakfast and lunch included.
Day 17: Pokhara to Kathmandu
A scenic drive back to Kathmandu by private a vehicle will be done today. You can enjoy the scenery outside as it consists of beautiful hills covered with thick woodlands and rivers. Overnight at hotel, breakfast included.
Day 18: Farewell
Approximately 3 hours before the scheduled flight, a representative from Escape Himalaya will take you to the airport from where you will depart.
