Leaving the Kali Gandaki Valley, you would be traversing through rocky channels to Chele where you will experience the juxtapose of changing lifestyles from Manangi to that of Tibetan traditions. Trudging along the Ghami La Pass, you will also walk along to Ghami, the third largest town in Mustang and pass along the longest Mani wall in the region, roughly one thousand meters long and intricately sculptured with carvings of prayers.
The Upper Mustang Trek also presents you the opportunity to visit the Lo-Gekar monastery, which is older than the Samye monastery in Tibet. Day 01: Arrive at Tribhuwan International Airport, Kathmandu
As you arrive at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be greeted by one of our representatives from Escape Himalaya. You will then be transferred to your hotel where you will proceed to check-in. There are no planned activities for the day, so you may relax and get to know that lay of the land at the hotel. Overnight Stay at the hotel.
Day 02: Kathmandu to Pokhara (910m/3020ft), Duration: 6 hrs
Passing by dazzling views of terraced fields, various rural settlements, and fantastic landscape of Manaslu, Lamjung Himal, Ganesh Himal, and many other peaks, we will drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara which takes around 6 hours. In Pokhara, we can either go for sightseeing around the city or go for boating in Phewa Lake or just relax in hotel. Overnight stay at the hotel in Pokhara. Breakfast included.
Day 03: From Pokhara fly to Jomsom (2700m/8855ft) & Trek to Kagbeni (2800m/9185ft), Duration: 3 hrs
We will experience a scenic flight from Pokhara to Jomsom which takes about 20-25 minutes and passes through the deepest gorge of the world while the awesome views of Annapurna Ranges, Mt. Dhaulagiri, and Fishtail add a magnificent allure to the short flight journey. As we land in Jomsom, we will begin our trek. We will walk to Kagbeni which takes around 3 hours. It is the check point for entering the restricted Upper Mustang Trek. We can see majestic sights of the grandiose views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Tukuche peak and Nilgiri on the way. Overnight stay at the guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 04: Kagbeni to Chele (3110m/10200ft), Duration: 5-6 hrs
We will trek to Chele from Kagbeni which takes around 6 hours. Leaving Chele, we will walk up to the east shore of the Kali Gandaki River and ascend over several edges before reaching the Tangbe village. We will here, get to see white washed houses, fields of wheat, buckwheat, barley, and apple orchards. Also, notice the Nilgiri peak standing on the southern skyline of Kagbeni. Moreover, we will leave the Kali Gandaki valley and ascend up on a rocky vertical channel to Chele where we can notice the way of life changing from the Manangi to the Tibetan traditions of Lo. Overnight at guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 05: Chele to Geling (3500m/11480ft), Duration: 5-6 hrs
We will climb along steep, treeless, arid terminus region all along the side of the amazing vertical canyon. After that, we will walk down where we will see chortens on an edge. We will keep on descending along a pleasing path to the village of Samar. After ascending to one of the ridges, we will move down into a big gorge and the path gets into one more valley field. We will also stroll down to an edge at 3800m and continue to traverse one more pass before walking down to Shyangmochen. From there, we will soothingly ascend to a pass at 3770m and move down to get to Geling Village. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 06: Geling to Charang (3620m/11875ft), Duration: 4 hrs
From Geling, on this day, we will walk on the barren, chocolate-colored hills. You can see the Nye La pass located straight in front. The trail also moves down to the Ghami La pass. Walking ahead, the landscape will turn rougher. On our walk, we will notice another wide valley on the left side where the centre point is Ghami - third largest town in Mustang. Departing from Ghami, we will see the longest Mani wall in Mustang which is roughly 1000m long and bedecked with carvings. We will then have a stable way up where we will not see any signs of human or plant life. The landscape is completely barren. We will have an excursion to the Charang Stupa in the middle of the barren terra firma. Walking downward from there, we will also see the Charang Palace. Overnight stay at the guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 07: Charang to Lo - Manthang (3840m/12595ft), Duration: 3 hrs
Moving ahead from Charang, on this day, we will ascend to Lo-Gekar where we will notice Lo-Gekar monastery which is identified as older one than the Samye monastery in Tibet. Then, we will keep walking to Lo Manthang. To conclude for the day, we will catch a view of the settlements adorned with the placement of the Lho walls. Then, we will traverse a stream and ascend up to the upland of Lo Manthang. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 08: Exploration of Namgyal Gompa and Tingkhar and return, Duration: 4-6 hrs
This is the day for exploration around Namgyal monastery and Tingkhar in Lo- Manthang. Taking approximately 2 hours, we will reach Namgyal Gompa set on the top of the hill and is an important monastery for the local people. After this, we will visit a settlement named Tingkhar with roughly 40 houses. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 09: Lo-Manthang to Drakmar (3820m/12530ft), Duration: 6-7 hrs
We will, on this day, ascend gradually which presents a last sight of Lo Manthang before ascending an edge at the height of 4070m. Carrying on walking, we will come across the Chogo La Pass placed at the height of (4210m) which is the peak point during the Upper Mustang Trek. The path with a short and steep drop traverses the Charang River. Also, we will ascend to Lo Gekar and get to Ghar monastery. Before arriving at Drakmar, we will then traverse a valley and alpine fields. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 10: Drakmar to Shyangmochen (3800m/12465ft), Duration: 5-6 hrs
On this day, we will walk ahead from Drakmar and we will traverse two more passes and witness grand views of the Annapurna Himalaya Ranges. We will also reach Jamyung between Syangboche and Ghelung. Passing the trail to Ghelung, you will get the opportunity to witness and observe two monasteries lying on top of the village. Then, we will trek to Syangboche. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 11: Shyangbochen to Chhusang (2980m/9775ft), Duration: 6 hrs
We will walk away Syangboche and stroll down following a river before we get to Chhusang. It takes approximately 6 hours to reach Chhusang lying at 2980m. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 12: Chusang to Muktinath (3800m/12465ft), Duration: 7 hrs
We will walk ahead from Chhusang village and with a short vertical way up to the valley ground; we will carry on ascending to reach a small pass where we will notice Muktinath. We will also walk traversing Gyu La Pass set at the height of 4077m. It also presents a wonderful panorama of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan Ranges. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 13: Muktinath to Jomsom (2700m/8855ft), Duration: 6 hrs
In the morning, on this day, we will walk around Muktinath which holds the holy Muktinath temple and a few other monasteries. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and we can also see 108 water taps pouring water around it. Then, walking to Jomsom, we will be traversing though verdant landscape of the region, taking around 6 hours. On the way, we will go back over our steps to Jomsom observing the great views of the Nilgiri peak. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse, breakfast, lunch and dinner included.
Day 14: Jomsom to Pokhara
We will, on this day, take a morning flight from Jomsom to reach Pokhara which takes 20 minutes. In Pokhara, we can visit sights like Davis Fall, Begnas Tal, Mahendra Cave, Bindabasini temple, Peace Stupa and more. At the hotel, we can just lighten up for this day. Breakfast included.
Day 15: Pokhara to Kathmandu
We will drive to Kathmandu which takes around 6 hours. Then, we will shift to the hotel. At the hotel, we can just calm down and have a relaxed day dallying around or go for shopping.
Day 16: Farewell
This is the last day of the trekking journey. One of the representatives from Escape Himalaya will escort you to the airport for your return flight, from where you will depart, hopefully with wonderful memories of the trekking journey.
