    Overview

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek lets you fully appreciate and immerse yourself in Mount Manaslu's beauty- the world's fifth-highest mountain. Walk on trails that go through many hidden villages and dainty settlements and observe the unique culture and traditions of the people nearby. The beautiful environments of the trek let you be lost in the magical natural setting like never before. The mystical forests and emerald woodlands make for a perfect respite away from the monotonous lifestyle in the cities. The natural landscape of the Manaslu region is unprecedented and presents a beautiful array of natural and traditional blends.

The hidden gem of the region, the Tsum Valley, is a beautiful destination that is abundant in the customs of the people and is shrouded in a pretty canopy of emerald patina. The glittering snow of the mountains and the ivory peaks along the trails greatly enhance the trekking journey. The terrain encompasses lots of ups and downs along with difficult trekking paths. Because of this, it usually receives fewer travelers in this part of the region than others, but that only makes it all the more appealing to undergo. The awe-inspiring Tsum Valley will surely leave you in a trance because of its beauty and magnificence. It is a recently opened trekking trail and has quickly gotten lots of attention from travelers from all over because of its best elements and aspects. The simple accommodation facilities, authentic Nepali customs and traditions, hospitality, and warmth make for a joyous trekking journey.

The Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is a delightful trekking package that lets you walk along the Nepal-Tibet border. The prepossessing area around the border is rich in diverse cultures of ethnic people, and you can look at many small and large Gumbas and chortens along the trail. The prayer flags draped along the spires of the monasteries tend to sway gently in the wind, making the journey a memorable event. The serene environments along the trail are beautiful respites. The dense forests and emerald woodlands along the trek are fascinating and are home to many endangered species of rare flora and fauna. The region also has a complete ban on hunting, fishing, and animal slaughtering. While on the trekking trail, you can sometimes catch glimpses of animals like the elusive Himalayan Thar and the Blue Sheep. Stroll along the exuberant flow of the Budhi Gandaki River, the jovial Machha Khola, and the Soti Khola as you walk on paths ornamented beautifully with a natural hue. The views of mountain peaks like the Manaslu peak, Ganesh Himal, Sringi Himal, and Hiunchuli along the trek are surreal.

One of the significant culminations of the Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek is Larkya La Pass, which has an altitude of 5,106 meters. It is the highest point of the trek. From the pass, you can get mesmerizing views of cerulean peaks like the Cheo Himal, Kang Guru Peak, the Himlung Himal, and rare views of the Annapurna massif. Enjoy the cultural vibrancy that is found on the trails. The traditional aspect of the trek is distinctive to the Tsum Valley and cannot be found anywhere else. Visit the Mu Gompa, the holy Ranchen Gompa, and the Nunnery Temple, where you can get insights into the Tibetan Buddhist lifestyle and culture. The perseverance of the people's culture and their rituals has evaded time and modernization, and as you witness these phenomena, it feels like you have been transported back in time.

We also have alternate packages for you for the Manaslu region. Our Manaslu Circuit Trek takes you excursing through the far-off valleys of the region. Likewise, the 13 Days Tsum Valley Trek is another option for a shorter version highlighting the valley and its aspects similarly. Join our Manaslu Tsum Valley Trek to experience an incredible adventure in a remote yet all-encompassing hiking journey! Let us accompany you on this fantastic adventure!

              6Day 06

Chumling to Chhokangparo (3,010m/9,903ft), Duration: 4-5 Hours

From Chumling, we will trek to Chhokangparo. Upper Tsum Valley opens from Chhokangparo. It is a small village on flat land comprising two settlements, Chhekam and Paro. From the valley, the Ganesh Himal Range can be seen directly to the south, providing spectacular views of the Bauddha and Himal Chuli peaks to the southwest. Some of the houses in this village practice polyandry. From Chhokangparo, you will be trekking to Nile/Chhule. This is the last village heading north in the Upper Tsum Valley. The Nile is on the western sun-side of the Shiar Khola, about 20 minutes walk across Chhule. On the way, you will also be passing the Piren Phu cave. The cave, also called the Pigeon cave, is one of the most sacred caves in the Tsum Valley. It is located at the foot of a rugged cliff near the village of Burji. Milarepa- the famous Tibetan saint, was believed to have meditated here. There are two separate Gompa attached to the rocky cave. Richly painted Buddhist murals, excellent artistic scripts carved on stones, long prayer flags, and significant Buddhist paper scripts make this cave one of the essential socio-cultural assets in the valley.

Overnight stay at the Guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

                7Day 07

Chhokangparo to Nile ((3,361m/11,058ft), Duration: 5-6 Hours

Ascending from Chokhangparo, you might get symptoms of Altitude sickness. So, we recommend you take precautions and drink plenty of water to keep yourself hydrated. We head east through small villages and past a local school. The magnificent view here pauses our trekking and stops for the honor of the amazing nature.

Gradually climbing over a ridge of chortens, we pass Lama Gaon (3202m) through the flat fields, looking across the extensive crops and river to the Rachen Gompa/ Nunnery Gompa (3240m) with excellent pilgrim accommodation. Thar is often sighted near here. The friendly people speak Tsumba, related to Tibetan, but often little Nepali and are quite unused to visitors. We can also make a short visit and then cross the Shiyar Khola, pass through the hamlets of Phurbe (3251m) and Pangdun (3258m), and pass an unusual round stupa before reaching the larger village of Chhule (3347m) through an impressive entrance gate. Then we continue walking through the well-managed villages of Lar (micro hydropower), Phurbe, and Pangdun.

We leave the old historic Stupa of Buddha on the way crossing the village of Chhule. The children here all wear Tibetan dressing gowns called chubas, and there are many yaks. Heading upstream to cross the bridge and climb to Nile (pronounced Nee-lay). The Nile is the last village heading north in the upper Tsum valley. This area is massively deforested. This village is situated on the banks of the Shiar Khola and consists of many households. Both villages are traditional, including livestock compounds in the houses and sheltered verandahs for drying crops.

Overnight at Guesthouse, Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner included.

                  8Day 08

Nile/Chhule to Mu Gompa (3,700m/12,136ft) Visit the Dephyudonma Gompa, Duration: 5 Hours

From the Nile, the trail gradually ascends to Mu Gumba- the largest monastery in the region. Mu Gumba is located at the highest and farthest point in the Tsum valley. It was established in 1895 AD and is situated at an altitude of 3,510m. The monastery houses religious books, including Kangyur, a life-sized statue of Avalokiteshwara, and images of Guru Padmasambhava and Tara. Dephyudonma Gumba is one of the oldest monasteries in the Tsum Valley and is situated in the rugged mountains, 2 hours' walk from the village of Chhule and Nile. The history of this monastery is directly associated with the dawn of Buddhism in the valley. Lama Serap of Nile Ladrang from the Kangi sect runs the monastery. There are a few campsites and drinking water facilities.

Overnight stay at the Guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

                    9Day 09

Mu Gompa to Ranchen Gompa (3,240m/10,630ft), Duration: 5 Hours

From Mu Gumba, you will take the trail to Rachen Gumba, a nunnery. The nunnery is situated in the Shiar Khola Valley in the foothills of the mountains bordering Nepal and Tibet. Rachen Gumba was established in 1905 AD and is one of the largest nunneries in the Tsum Valley. It houses nuns belonging to the Ngak-pa sect, which does not allow animal slaughter. The nunnery houses one thousand clay-molded statues of Avalokiteshwara, a brightly colored and carved throne and pillar, and a large prayer wheel. The interior is richly painted with murals about Buddhism and its history.

Overnight stay at the Guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

                      10Day 10

Trek to Deng (1,860m), Duration: 7-8 Hours

Today, you will be trekking to the settlement of Deng. It requires around 7 to 8 hours of walking, and the path is adorned with many natural sights and beautiful scenery. Overnight stay at the Guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

                        11Day 11

You will be scrambling steeply up onto a spectacular trail and will descend to cross the river. In the afternoon, you will make an excursion to the small settlement of Prok. It is a two-hour round trip.

Overnight stay at the Guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

Continuing your trek from Namrung, you will steadily climb up into the alpine hills, where you can see the first glimpses of Manaslu North. The stunning view of Manaslu is awe-inspiring.

Overnight stay at the Guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

                            13Day 13

You will pass the stone gate and the village's long Mani stone wall, with a full view of Peak 29 ahead. You can also make a side excursion to Pungen Glacier to get a close-up view of Manaslu. The trial follows a lateral moraine of Pungen Glacier towards Sama. After another 20-minute walk, you will reach Sama Gompa, where you shall stop for a night halt.

Overnight stay at the Guesthouse. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

It leads to Samdo (3,860m), a Tibetan refugee village. This remote village is only a day's walk from the Tibetan border. After crossing a few streams, you will reach the Larkya Bazaar, a village that thrived off trade with Tibet years ago. You will reach a lodge at 4450m after a steady climb. It is the last night before the pass.

                                              Everest base camp trek - Mar-Apr 2024

My 60 year old pals set out in hope on this adventure. In late March. We had our guide Raj Kumar and two porterd Janak and Ramesh. All three were stars. We changed our schedule - no problem. I would not have made it without Raj. I cannot thank him enough. Janak often took my back pack on steep climbs where I was struggling. This is a truly majestic and spiritual trek and I would encourage using Escape Himalaya and request this team of guide and porters if you want to give yourself the best chance of finishing and making best use of your time.
