Overview

Mustang Tiji Festival Trek is one of the lifetime opportunities to indulge in the rich cultural heritage of remote and isolated regions of Nepal. Every year, people of the Mustang region celebrate this festival with great joy and pleasure with friends and family. It is celebrated as the historical moment when Dorje Jono fought and won the demonic spirits of his evil father and saved Mustang from drought. And ever since, Mustang has celebrated the Tiji festival for 300 years as a prayer for world peace. The festival is observed in March as per the Chinese Lunar calendar. The dates for celebrating the Mustang Tiji Festival for the year 2023 are the 16th, 17th, and 18th of May. Like the old times, the celebration for 2023 will also be eventful.

Moreover, Mustang Tiji Festival Trek is the same as the regular Upper Mustang Trek. The only difference is that we will spend extra three days in the Mustang, observing incredible festivities. The festivity is three days long and includes many cultural performances like mask dance by monasteries monks. With that, head monks perform worship, prayers, and chants to stop the despicable spirits from the village. The monks prepare a model of the demons using common home ingredients like barley grain, honey, and yak cheese, and they burn it as a symbol of the destruction of demons. Cleric performs various types of rites and rituals. Likewise, these are interesting to observe as they hold deep meaning and denote the Mustang's cultural and traditional aspects.
