Core exercises like planks will enhance balance and stability, crucial for maintaining energy during the trek. Hiking on inclines or staircases will also help simulate the trek’s challenging terrain. Can You Drive Rara Trek

Drive to Surkhet: Begin your journey by driving from Kathmandu to Surkhet, which typically takes around 12-14 hours by road (approximately 600 km). You can hire a private vehicle or take a bus from Kathmandu to Surkhet.

Drive to Talcha: From Surkhet, continue your journey by driving to Talcha, the nearest access point to Rara Lake. The road from Surkhet to Talcha is rough and bumpy, and it takes around 6-8 hours. You’ll need a sturdy 4x4 vehicle as the roads are not well-maintained, especially in the mountainous regions.

Start the Trek: Once you reach Talcha, you can begin your trek to Rara Lake, which usually takes a day or two to reach, depending on your pace and route.

Return the Same Way: After enjoying Rara Lake, you can retrace your steps back to Talcha, and then drive back to Surkhet, followed by the return drive to Kathmandu.

This driving option gives you a more adventurous and scenic route to reach Rara Lake, especially for those who prefer not to fly. However, it requires patience for long hours of travel on challenging roads.

    Permit for Rara Lake

Rara National Park Permit Rara Lake is located within Rara National Park, so trekkers need to obtain a permit to enter the park. The fee for this permit is typically around NPR 1000 (for foreigners) and can be obtained at the park entrance in Talcha or through the local trekking agencies.

TIMS (Trekkers’ Information Management System) Card:
Although the TIMS card is generally required for most trekking routes in Nepal, it is not strictly necessary for the Rara Lake Trek. However, it is recommended to have one, as it helps with safety and security for trekkers. A TIMS card can be obtained through the Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) or at the Kathmandu or Pokhara offices.

Leaving Sinja Khola and following the trail along the Ghatta Khola amid the unparallel beauty of nature, we will make our way to the border of Rara National Park. The indirect route winds up into terraced farmland and beautiful valleys. Soon, we find ourselves within the territory of Rara Lake National Park as we come across primitive flour mills and police posts along the way. Rara National Park was established in 1976 and is the country's smallest national park. With the sapphire Rara Lake being the park's main feature, Rara National Park's establishment protects the lake from sedimentation and preserves the lake's wildlife. The park ranges in elevation from 2,800 m (9,200 ft) to 4,039 m (13,251 ft) at the Chuchemara Peak on the southern side of Rara Lake. On the northern side, the peaks of Ruma Kand and the Malika Kand frame the alpine freshwater lake. Trek via Jhyari (2,630m) to River Camp

Jhyari is a small village with dainty homes and extremely hospitable Gurung, Magar, and Thakuri people. Strolling by the Jhyari Khola, the trail further follows terraced farmlands, winding serpentine along the fields, and through the segregation of the terrace farms of rice and mustard. As we approach the Dhauligar Khola Valley, we will find a suitable campsite near the river bank. We can also witness an exotic and charismatic natural sight with an outstanding panorama of snow-capped mountain peaks.

The walk comes to an end when we arrive at the peaceful village of Chautha after descending a steep slope.

Overnight stay at the tented camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

    12Day 12

    Trek to Tharamara (3,280m)

Overnight stay at the tented camp. Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner are included.

    13Day 13

    Trek to Jumla

Following the trail gently sloping upwards, we march towards Jumla. Tall birch trees lead to the Khali Lagna and the Danphe Lekh. We can have the most spectacular views of the mountain ridges to the south and Jumla below from the ridge. Further on, we will descend steeply to the first night's campsite. Utmost caution is required while trekking along this trail because of its treacherous route. We then follow the same route back to Jumla. After reaching Jumla, we can spend our afternoon exploring the busy market town or simply pursuing whatever we feel like doing here. Jumla is one of the 75 districts in the mid-western hills of Nepal, where rice cultivation ranges from 2,400 to 3,050 meters in altitude- the highest elevation in the world. The highest elevation at 3,050 meters is Chhumjul of Jumla, a record altitude where rice is cultivated. Jumli Marshi, a Japonica variety of indigenous rice having the cold tolerant gene, has probably been cultivated here since 1,300 years ago on the bank of the Tila River. The Tila Valley and the Sinja Khola Valley are covered with paddy fields growing the "Kali Marshi" rice variety. This unique red rice is sought after for its exceptional taste.

      Gorgeous Views!

Excellent trekking experience with Escape Himalaya to Kala Patthar! Everything went seamlessly, and my guide ensured we were safe and comfortable at all times, even in the high altitude. Will definitely choose EH again when I am back in Nepal for more hiking! The country is so beautiful and just has so much to offer!

Amazing Manaslu Circuit with Phurba & Ram

Just back from a fantastic 2 week trek around the Manaslu Circuit including Larke Pass (5100m). The weather was perfect and the views were outstanding!!

Our guide Phurba Sherpa was excellent. Super knowledgeable and helpful at all times and always made sure we had a fantastic trip.

Our porter, Ram Badhadur Magar was also a rockstar. He was super professional and always arrived before us every day. He was also super friendly and helpful too.

Thanks to Phurba, Ram for always smiling and for a fantastic trip. Would highly recommend them to anyone interested in trekking in Nepal

      Everest base camp trek - Mar-Apr 2024

My 60 year old pals set out in hope on this adventure. In late March. We had our guide Raj Kumar and two porterd Janak and Ramesh. All three were stars. We changed our schedule - no problem. I would not have made it without Raj. I cannot thank him enough. Janak often took my back pack on steep climbs where I was struggling. This is a truly majestic and spiritual trek and I would encourage using Escape Himalaya and request this team of guide and porters if you want to give yourself the best chance of finishing and making best use of your time.

    FAQS

    Expand All (8)

Q1. Will there be someone to pick me up at the airport when I arrive?

Yes, Escape Himalaya offers airport pickup services for our clients. We recognize the significance of a seamless arrival and strive to guarantee a trouble-free beginning to your journey. When you reserve a trek or tour with us, you can coordinate with our team to schedule a representative to greet you at the airport upon your arrival.

Look for our staff member holding a signboard bearing your name or the company's name for easy recognition. Providing us with your flight details ahead of time, including your flight number and estimated arrival time, enables us to make suitable arrangements for your pickup.

Q2. Do we need a visa before coming to Nepal?

Yes, most travelers need a visa to enter Nepal. However, the process for obtaining a visa depends on your nationality. You can either obtain a visa from the diplomatic consulate office of Nepal in your respective country or apply for an “On Arrival” visa at the entry checkpoints of Nepal. Please click this link to get more information on ways to issue a tourist visa. Also please see the visa fee here below:

On-Arrival Visa Fee at Entry Points of Nepal:

    • 15 Days – 30 USD
    • 30 Days – 50 USD
    • 90 Days – 125 USD

Indian nationals do not need to have a visa to enter Nepal however they need to bring an official document such as a Passport or Election card (issued by the Election Commission) that proves their identity.

Q3. Which one is better: Group or Solo (private) trek?

Escape Himalaya offers both group and solo trek to Everest Base Camp. However, to choose to join which tour style completely depends upon the traveler itself.

If you are happy to meet people from other parts of the world and join in an experience of a lifetime with fellow travelers, then going for a group trek is also best.

However, if you prefer freedom and flexibility, trekking solo (private) will give you the independence to set your own pace and choose your itinerary. You will have the flexibility to make spontaneous decisions. You will not be bound by a group schedule and choose to lead your journey as you wish and even modify the plan if needed.

Q4. As a solo traveler, are you able to join a group for your journey?

Certainly! As a solo traveler, you're welcome to join one of the groups organized by Escape Himalaya. We frequently arrange group treks and tours that cater to individuals traveling alone. Joining a group not only allows you to meet other travelers but also offers the opportunity to share experiences and potentially lower costs.

When reaching out to Escape Himalaya, simply inform us that you're a solo traveler interested in joining a group. We'll then provide details about available group departures and assist you in selecting a trek or tour that aligns with your preferences and travel dates.

Q5. What are the types of hotel you use in Kathmandu?

Generally, we use the best available 3-star, 4-star, and 5-star category hotels for travelers' accommodation in Kathmandu. Meanwhile, travelers can upgrade or prolong accommodation with us as required.

The costs to prolong or upgrade hotel accommodation in Kathmandu may vary based on preferred hotel rates.

Q6. Which destinations are commonly favored by tourists visiting Nepal?

Nepal boasts breathtaking natural landscapes and a profound cultural legacy. Among the sought-after tourist spots are Kathmandu (the capital), Pokhara, Chitwan National Park, Lumbini (the birthplace of Lord Buddha), Bhaktapur, as well as the renowned trekking regions of Annapurna, Everest, Langtang, Manaslu, and Upper Mustang.

Q7. What is your cancellation policy?

Escape Himalaya's cancellation policy states that the initial 20% deposit made upon booking is non-refundable and will be considered a cancellation fee. This policy is effective immediately upon booking confirmation. If you cancel your trip, this deposit is retained by Escape Himalaya.

However, if you have paid more than the 20% deposit, the cancellation fee will be reduced to 20%, and the remaining balance will be refunded via the original payment method.

Alternatively, they offer a flexible postponement policy. You can postpone your trip without any additional charge if you notify them at least one day before the scheduled departure. This allows you to reschedule your trip to a later date without losing your deposit.

Q8. Would it be possible for me to upgrade my accommodation to a luxury hotel in Kathmandu?

Certainly! You have the option to upgrade your accommodation to a luxury hotel in Kathmandu. If you wish to elevate your stay from the standard 3-star hotel provided by Escape Himalaya, simply let us know, and we can arrange the upgrade for you. However, please bear in mind that availability and pricing for luxury hotels may fluctuate based on the hotel and the timing of your visit.
